The municipality of Ferdinandovac is named after King Ferdinand V (of Hungary/Croatia, a.k.a. Emperor Ferdinand I of Austria), who built the town following urbanistic principles.

The symbols of Ferdinandovac are described in the Municipality Statutes Statute Općine Ferdinandovac, adopted on 28 September 2001 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 11 October 2001 in the County official gazette Službeni glasnik Koprivnicko-križevacke županije, No. 12, although adopted earlier.
The Municipality Statutes Statut Općine Ferdinandovac, adopted on 23 January 2006 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 26 January 2006 in Službeni glasnik Koprivnicko-križevacke županije, No. 1, repeat the description of the symbols.
So do the current Municipality Statutes Statut Općine Ferdinandovac, adopted on 13 July 2009 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 16 August 2009 in Službeni glasnik Koprivnicko-križevacke županije, No. 10.
The symbols, designed by Željko Moslavac and Spomenko Relić, were approved by the Ministry of Administration on 13 July 1995, as reported by D. Ernečić [erc03].
The flag is in proportions 1:2, green with the coat of arms, bordered yellow, in the middle.

The coat of arms is "Vert a St. Ferdinand haloed and holding a flag and sword all or and in base a bar argent".
St. Ferdinand is the patron saint of the municipality, village and parish of Ferdinandovac. The green field symbolizez the fertile plain, nature, grasslands, woods, the flora and fauna of the region. The silver stripe stands for river Drava (Glas Podravine, 6 June 1997).
